Correspondence, legal papers, business papers, news clippings and photographs. Letters from many family members including Pierre Menard and many from Pierre's son, Edmond, Pierre, Jr., Berenice Menard Chouteau, Peter Menard, Lucien Maxwell, Ferdinand Maxwell, and also Sidney Breese and Felix Valle. Much of W.V. Morrison's correspondence involves family history, restoration of the Menard home, his book, Alias Billy the Kid and the lawsuit. Numerous deeds, inventories, promissory notes, surveys, claims and other documents. Copies of his biography of Lucien Maxwell, the Maxwell family history and the Morrison family history.

Illinois' first Lieutenant-Governor (1818-1822). Menard was an early French Canadian resident of Kaskaskia, Randolph County, related by marriage to the Saucier and Chouteau families. Born at Kaskaskia, Ill., a descendent of Pierre Menard, Hugh Maxwell, and William Morrison, all early settlers and prominent in Illinois history, he studied law and practiced in St. Louis until he moved to Texas where he continued to research his family genealogy to establish heirship and used the information in a 1943 law suit to recover Menard's land for the family heirs.
